A method for forming the seat in a pulsed sampling valve used in a FTICR MS. The valve has a ceramic ball (44) that closes against the seat to thereby seal the passageway (36) that is used for introduction of sample into the FTICR MS vacuum chamber. The material from which the seat is formed is chosen to withstand relatively high operating temperatures and a precise deburred hole is drilled in that material. The pre-load spring (48) exerts a force against the ball when the valve is assembled. The force initially exceeds the yield strength of the seat material to deform the material to form the seat.

Procédé permettant de former un siège dans une vanne d'échantillonnage pulsé utilisée dans un spectromètre de masse à résonance cyclotronique des ions basé sur la transformation de Fourier (FITCR). Ladite vanne possède une bille de céramique (44) qui se bloque contre le siège pour fermer hermétiquement le passage (36) utilisé pour l'introduction de l'échantillon dans la chambre à vide dudit spectromètre de masse. La matière dont est constitué le siège est choisie de manière à résister à des températures de fonctionnement relativement élevées et un trou ébarbé précis est foré dans ladite matière. Le ressort précontraint (48) exerce une force contre la bille lorsque la vanne est assemblée. Ladite force excède initialement la limite conventionnelle d'élasticité de la matière constituant le siège, de manière à entraîner une déformation de la matière pour former le siège.
