ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure describes a method for the further processing of the hydrogenation residue formed during the hydrogenation of heavy oils. The hydrogenation residue, and the catalyst contained in the residue, are fed into the liquid phase of a coal hydrogenating installation to be hydrogenated jointly with the coal. The hydrogenation residue may be introduced directly into the liquid phase of the coal hydrogenating plant, or may be combined with the coal to form a paste. With this method, there is no need to extend the time of hydrogenation excessively.
