ABSTRACT Waste disposal sites are sealed at night by means of covering layers of earth in order to prevent food-seeking animals from spreading disease and foul-smelling gases from escaping. In order to minimize the loss of valuable dumping volume to covering layer 3, it is proposed that the latter be in the form of carpets of foam, whose volume requirement when newly covered with garbage 2 is insignificant. It is particularly advantageous if added to carpets of foam 3 are microorganisms that facilitate garbage decomposition (Fig. 2).
