Disclosed is a method for grinding a roll having been thermally/mechanically damaged on a surface, comprising: contacting the surface of the roll with a surface wave probe, before or during grinding the roll, via a film of a coupling medium existing therebetween; measuring a height of reflected waves from the thermally/mechanically damaged surface, existing or remaining in the surface of the roll, in such a manner that surface waves are propagated into the roll from the surface wave probe while a liquid existing on a path of the surface waves is removed; and determining a grinding allowance of the roll according to the height of the reflected waves. By this method, the grinding allowance of the roll is optimized to reduce the roll consumption and to improve the roll grinding efficiency.

Méthode de meulage d'un rouleau dont la surface a été endommagée par la chaleur ou une opération mécanique. En l'occurrence, mise en contact de la surface du rouleau avec un palpeur d'ondes de surface, avant ou pendant le meulage du rouleau, avec l'aide d'une couche de produit de couplage appliquée entre le rouleau et le palpeur d'ondes; mesure de l'amplitude des ondes réfléchies par la surface endommagée, présentes ou qui restent sur la surface du rouleau, de façon à assurer la propagation des ondes de surface dans le rouleau à partir du palpeur de surface tout en permettant au liquide de meulage versé sur le trajet des ondes de surface d'être évacué; détermination de la surépaisseur de rectification du rouleau en fonction de l'amplitude des ondes réfléchies.
