Disclosed herein is a process of treating a particulate material, in which the particles are subjected to motion inside a chamber maintained under vacuum and wherein the vapour of a catalytic metal destined to coat the particles is present, the process comprising the steps of: a) effecting a high vacuum in the chamber; b) evaporating the catalytic metal by heating the catalytic metal; c) fluidizing the particles to be coated by placing the particles in an open container and shaking the container by connecting the container to a source of low frequency vibrations; wherein the particles are fluidized in the chamber and are contacted with the catalytic metal vapour which condenses onto the particles to coat the particles. Further disclosed herein is an apparatus useful for carrying out the process of the present invention.
