Described is a method for determining the function of a gene. This method involves determining the amount of transcript for each of a set of candidate genes in samples taken from different phenotypic and/or genotypic states of an organism and determining the amount of each of a plurality of metabolites in different samples taken from the same states as those mentioned above. Subsequently, the data obtained is analyzed by suitable mathematical methods in order to identify a transcript and metabolites which correlate in the different states, thereby identifying a transcript corresponding to a gene which influences the amount of metabolites in the organism. Furthermore described is a method for identifying a gene which is capable of modifying the amount of a metabolite in an organism and to a method for identifying a metabolite which is capable of modifying the amount of a transcript in an organism. Likewise, uses of the genes and metabolites identified in the aforementioned methods are described.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer la fonction d'un gène. Le procédé décrit dans cette invention consiste à déterminer la quantité de transcrits pour chacun des gènes contenus dans un ensemble de gènes candidats dans des échantillons prélevés à différents états phénotypiques et/ou génotypiques d'un organisme, puis à déterminer la quantité de chacun des multiples métabolites dans différents échantillons prélevés aux mêmes états. Ensuite, les données obtenues sont analysées selon des méthodes mathématiques adéquates de manière à identifier un transcrit et des métabolites qui sont en corrélation dans les différents états, ce qui permet d'identifier un transcrit correspondant à un gène influençant la quantité de métabolites dans l'organisme. En outre, cette invention concerne un procédé permettant d'identifier un gène capable de modifier la quantité d'un métabolite dans un organisme, ainsi qu'un procédé permettant d'identifier un métabolite capable de modifier la quantité d'un transcrit dans un organisme. L'invention concerne également des utilisations de ces gènes et de ces métabolites identifiés dans les procédés susmentionnés.
