In writing a unitary image on an imaging media using two or more exposure heads where each exposure head writes a portion of the unitary image, alignment of the imaging heads is essential to ensure that an artefact is not apparent where the imaged portions join. The alignment is accomplished by determining the degree of misalignment between the heads by examining an image that has been written and then adjusting the scanning speed of at least one of the exposure heads to compensate for any misalignment.
