A method for controlling formation fines when producing viscous oil from a consolidated or loosely consolidated formation having at least two wells therein. Both wells are perforated and the formation is hydraulically fractured at a lower level via a viscous gel fluid having a size and temperature resistant proppant therein. The proppant is of a size sufficient to filter formation fines from the oil. Cyclic steam-flooding and oil production are continued in one well, while the other well, is shut-in. Prior to steam break through, the lower perforated intervals are isolated with production packers containing knock-out plugs. A correlatable selected upper interval in both wells is perforated and hydraulic fracturing is repeated. Cyclic steam-flooding and oil production are continued in the upper interval until steam break through occurs. Cyclic steam-flooding is ceased and production strings are directed through the knock-out plugs into the lower interval. Thereafter, steam is directed down the annulus from a first well into a second well in the upper interval, while producing oil from the lower interval. Thereafter, steam is circulated down both wells into the upper formation causing the formation of a "heat chest" and the production of hydrocarbonaceous fluids from the lower interval via the production string.

Méthode de contrôle des fines d'une formation pendant la production de pétrole visqueux à partir d'une formation consolidée ou faiblement consolidée où se trouvent au moins deux puits. Les deux puits sont forés et fracturés hydrauliquement à un niveau inférieur à l'aide d'un gel fluide visqueux comportant un agent de soutènement calibré résistant aux températures élevées. L'agent de soutènement est d'un calibre suffisant pour filtrer les fines de la formation présentes dans le pétrole. L'injection cyclique de vapeur et la production de pétrole se poursuivent dans un puits, pendant que l'autre puits est fermé. Avant la percée de la vapeur, les intervalles inférieurs perforés sont isolés au moyen de packers de production munis de bouchons enfonçables dans l'intervalle inférieur. Par la suite, la vapeur est dirigée, dans l'espace annulaire, du premier puits au second puits dans l'intervalle supérieur, pendant qu'il y a production de pétrole à partir de l'intervalle inférieur. Subséquemment, de la vapeur est injectée dans les deux puits jusque dans la formation supérieure, ce qui entraîne la constitution d'une « zone de chaleur » et la production de fluides hydrocarbonés à partir de l'intervalle inférieur au moyen de la colonne de production.
