The invention relates to a method for improving the coding accuracy and transmission efficiency of an audio signal. According to the method, a part of the audio signal to be coded is compared with earlier stored samples of the audio signal and a reference sequence of samples that best corresponds to the audio signal to be coded is identified. Predicted signals are produced from the reference sequence by means of long-term prediction, using at least two different LTP orders (M), a group of pitch predictor coefficients (b(K)) being formed for each pitch predictor order. The predicted signals for each pitch predictor order are compared with the audio signal to be coded in order to determine a prediction error. The amount of information required to code the predicted signals is compared with the amount of information required to code the original signal and a coding method that provides the best representation of the audio signal while minimising the amount of data required is selected.
La présente invention concerne un procédé d'amélioration de la précision de codage et de l'efficacité de transmission d'un signal audio. Selon ce procédé, une partie du signal audio à coder est comparée à des échantillons du signal audio précédemment stockés, une séquence de référence d'échantillons correspondant le mieux au signal audio à coder étant identifiée. Les signaux prédits sont produits à partir de la séquence de référence par prédiction à long terme, utilisant au moins deux (M) ordres de prédiction à long terme (LTP) différents, un groupe de coefficients (b(K)) de prédiction de tangage étant formé pour chaque ordre de prédiction de tangage. Les signaux prédits pour chaque ordre de prédiction de tangage sont comparés au signal audio à coder afin de déterminer une erreur de prédiction. La quantité d'informations requise pour coder les signaux prédits est comparée à la quantité d'informations requise pour coder le signal original, un procédé de codage représentant au mieux le signal audio tout en réduisant au minimum la quantité de données requises étant sélectionné.
