A method for improving the electrical transmissivity of an electrode installed into the soil comprises electro-osmotically injecting an electrolyte solution into the soil in the region of the electrode to create a low resistance zone around the electrode and thereby improve the soil-electrode contact and the transmissivity of the electrode. The electrolyte solution can be selected from different groups, for example a calcium chloride solution or a calcium acetate solution. The method can be applied to electrodes installed into the soil for electro-osmotically draining a soil deposit, for grounding a metallic equipment or structure, and for cathodically protecting buried metallic elements.
