The present invention provides a method for inactivating pathogens in a body fluid, such as plasma, red cells, platelets, leukocytes, and bone marrow. The present invention minimizes adverse effects caused by the photosensitive agents while retaining the disinfecting activity of such agents and processes. Pursuant to the present invention, prior to irradiating a body fluid including a photoactive drug, the extracellular fluid, which in the case of blod components includes plasma proteins is at least substantially reduced. Additionally, after the irradiation process, the resultant body fluid is prevented from contacting additional extracellular fluid, e.g., plasma proteins, for a predefined period.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'inactivation de germes pathogènes dans un liquide biologique, tel que du plasma, des globules rouges, des plaquettes, des leukocytes et de la moelle osseuse. Le procédé réduit au minimum les effets indésirables provoqués par les agents photosensibles tout en conservant l'activité de désinfection desdits agents et procédés. Conformément à l'invention, avant irradiation d'un liquide biologique contenant un médicament photoactif, le liquide extra-cellulaire, lequel dans le cas de constituants du sang comprend des protéines du plasma, est au moins sensiblement réduit. De plus, après irradiation, on empêche le liquide biologique obtenu de venir au contact d'un autre liquide extra-cellulaire, par exemple des protéines du plasma, pendant une durée prédéfinie.
