A method for inerting residues from the incineration of industrial or household waste or metal hydroxide sludge, whereby the toxic metals contained therein are stabilised and thus immobilised over the long term. The method includes the steps of heating a mixture containing the waste to be processed and one or more nucleating agents containing ferrous compounds in particular. Heating is performed under conditions such that a liquid-phase mixture also known as a molten mixture or melt is obtained, wherein at least 5 % of the Fe¿2?O¿3? oxides are converted into FeO oxides. The method further comprises the steps of controllably cooling the melt to give a solid in which the heavy metals contained in the processed waste are included within crystalline structures, and recovering the resulting solid. The heating step may include a phase of stabilising the mixture at a temperature which enables the complete liquefaction of the mixture to be processed.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'inertage de résidus d'incinération de déchets industriels ou domestiques, ou de boues d'hydroxydes métalliques, permettant d'immobiliser à long terme par stabilisation, les métaux toxiques contenus dans ces déchets. Le procédé comprend notamment les étapes de chauffage d'un mélange comprenant les déchets à traiter et un ou plusieurs agents de nucléation contenant notamment des composés ferreux. Le chauffage est réalisé dans des conditions telles qu'il permet l'obtention d'un mélange en phase liquide encore appelé mélange de fusion ou "melt", dont au moins 5 % des oxydes Fe2O3 sont transformés en oxydes FeO. Le procédé comprend également le refroidissement contrôlé du "melt" jusqu'à l'obtention d'un matériau solide dans lequel les métaux lourds contenus dans les déchets traités sont inclus au sein de structures cristallines, et la récupération du matériau solide obtenu. L'étape de chauffage peut comporter une phase de stabilisation du mélange à une température permettant la liquéfaction complète du mélange à traiter.
