A method for inferring the biological functions of a protein in question having a known or inferable configuration with the use of a three-dimensional structure data base containing physiologically active compounds capable of binding to target proteins with known biological functions, involving (1) the step of extracting from the data base as a ligand candidate a physiologically active compound capable of binding to the protein in question based on the capability of the physiologically active compound of forming a complex with the protein in question and (2) the step of inferring that the biological functions of the protein in question are identical with or similar to those of the target protein to which the above ligand candidate binds.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de déduire que les fonctions biologiques d'une protéine présentent une configuration connue ou déductible, au moyen d'une base de données de structures tridimensionnelles comprenant des composés physiologiquement actifs, capables de se fixer à des protéines cibles aux fonctions biologiques connues. Ce procédé consiste: 1) à extraire de ladite base de données un composé physiologiquement actif susceptible de constituer un ligand, ce composé, capable de se fixer à la protéine susmentionnée, étant choisi en fonction de son aptitude à former un complexe avec cette protéine; et 2) à en déduire que les fonctions biologiques de ladite protéine sont identiques à celles de la protéine cible à laquelle se fixe le ligand choisi.
