A method for initializing a phase change information storage device. The method includes the steps of: providing a data storage device having a phase change data storage medium (12), and exposing the phase change data storage medium with a first energy exposure for about 1 µsec (14) or less. The first exposure is then followed by at least one additional energy exposure to complete initialization (16).

L'invention concerne un procédé d'initialisation d'un dispositif de stockage d'informations à changement de phase. Ce procédé consiste à prendre un dispositif de stockage de données pourvu d'un support (12) de stockage de données à changement de phase, et à exposer ce dernier à une première exposition énergétique pendant environ une microseconde (14) au plus. Cette première exposition est suivie d'au moins une exposition énergétique supplémentaire permettant de terminer l'initialisation (16).
