A method for raising the soft and mid-level amplitude of sounds for greater clarity and perceptual benefit, while simultaneously removing the high level amplitude peaks without delay and providing protection for the auditory sense organ. The method does not require a feedback mechanism for the accomplishment of this treatment and exploits the psychoacoustic phenome-non of temporal integration which reduces the audibility of short duration signals, including distortions associated with peak clipping. The human auditory system requires greater time to integrate signal energy for audibility than provided by brief duration waveform peaks.
L'invention porte sur un procédé visant à augmenter l'amplitude de sons de niveau faible et moyen pour une meilleure clarté et un meilleur bénéfice de perception, tout en supprimant simultanément les pics d'amplitude de niveau élevé sans retard et permettant une protection pour l'organe de détection auditive. Le procédé ne requiert pas de mécanisme de rétroaction pour l'accomplissement de ce traitement et exploite le phénomène psychoacoustique d'intégration temporelle qui réduit l'audibilité de signaux de courte durée, comprenant des distorsions associées à l'écrêtage. Le système auditif humain a besoin d'un temps plus important pour intégrer une énergie de signal pour une audibilité que celle permise par des pics de formes d'ondes de brève durée.
