A B S T R A C T The invention provides a method of isomerizing isolated double- bonds to conjugated double-bonds in low-molecular weight homopolymers or co-polymers of 1,3 dienes with the aid of an isomerization catalyst and possibly in the presence of a solvent, the isomerization catalyst being a mixture of a) a hydroxide of the alkali metal potassium, rubidium or caesium and an alcohol, or b) a lithium or sodium alcoholate and a potassium, rubidium or caesium salt, or c) sodium hydroxide, an alcohol and a polar, aprotic compound, and the isomerization being carried out at a temperature of 0 to 220°C.
