A method for making a bipolar membrane, wherein an anionic membrane and a cationic membrane that have previously been subjected to a conditioning pre-treatment are placed together. The anionic membrane conditioning pre-treatment involves contacting said membrane with a polyvalent metal compound and an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution, while the cationic membrane conditioning pre-treatment essentially involves contacting said cationic membrane with water that is substantially free of polyvalent metal and alkali metal. The resulting bipolar membrane is useful for electrodialytically preparing aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions.
Procédé de fabrication d'une membrane bipolaire, selon lequel on accole une membrane anionique à une membrane cationique que l'on a au préalable soumises à un prétraitement de conditionnement, le prétraitement de conditionnement de la membrane anionique comprenant une mise en contact de celle-ci avec un composé d'un métal polyvalent et avec une solution aqueuse d'hydroxyde de métal alcalin et le prétraitement de conditionnement de la membrane cationique consistant essentiellement en une mise en contact de ladite membrane cationique avec de l'eau qui est essentiellement exempte de métal polyvalent et de métal alcalin. Utilisation de la membrane bipolaire ainsi obtenue, pour la fabrication de solutions aqueuses d'hydroxyde de sodium par électrodialyse.
