A method for making a smart battery generator cell (10) is disclosed. The method comprises interconnecting a generator cell of a battery (11, 12, 13) and a smart electronic circuit by mounting one or more active or passive electronic components (20) in the form of chips directly onto one of the elements (13) of the actual structure of the electrochemical pair forming the generator cell, said components being protected by a coating (30) and having a separate power supply via the structure, to form a smart battery cell (10). The method is useful for making a smart battery from a plurality of smart generator cells. Said method is useful in microsystems using micro-power sources.
