ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure describes a method for making a sup- ported vanadium oxide catalyst comprising the steps of: react- ing an aqueous solution of a vanadium compound with sodium dithionite in the presence of a support material to provide a finely dispersed vanadium sulfite complex on the support; removing the liquid; and decomposing the resulting supported vanadium complex by heating to obtain supported vanadium oxide.
