A method is disclosed for the making of compressed refractory fiber shapes, having a textured surface and an aggregate body. Small discrete fragments of refractory fiber in accumulated form are suspended in a colloidal dispersion. The fragments and the dispersion are mildly mixed so as not to thoroughly disperse the fiber fragments, but rather to form globules of the fiber in the resulting blend. The resulting material is shaped, e.g., molded under pressure, and usually dried while under pressure. Resulting shaped objects, in addition to a textured surface and an aggregate body, can have excellent thermal insulation property, and desirable flexibility as well as tensile strength.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé de fabrication de formes comprimées de fibres réfractaires, possédant une surface texturée et un corps compact. On suspend sous forme regroupée de petits fragments distincts de fibre réfractaire dans une dispersion colloïdale. On mélange en douceur les fragments et la dispersion de manière à ne pas disperser totalement les fragments de fibre, et à former plutôt des globules de la fibre dans le mélange résultant. Puis on façonne la matière résultante, par exemple par moulage sous pression, et on la sèche généralement alors qu'elle se trouve sous pression. Les objets formés résultants, possèdent, en plus d'une surface texturée et d'un corps compact, d'excellentes caractéristiques d'isolation thermique, ainsi que des caractéristiques souhaitables de souplesse et de résistance à la traction.
