ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE What is disclosed is the method of making an ionic crosslinked acrylic resin which comprises free- radically polymerizing, in bulk, a monomer mixture comprising: (a) at least 50 percent by weight of an alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl portion thereof; (b) 0.1 to 50 percent by weight of a salt formed between acrylic acid or methacrylic acid anions and a divalent or polyvalent metal cation,or 0.1 to 50 percent by weight of a mixture of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid with a compound of a divalent or polyvalent metal, which compound is soluble in said monomer mixture at least at the polymerization temperature employed and which is converted at least on heating into an acrylate or methacrylate salt of said divalent or polyvalent metal; and (c) from 0 to 20 percent by weight of a further comonomer, different from the monomers of (a) and (b) and copolymerizable with said monomers or copolymerizable with the unsaturated carboxylic acid present in (b).
