The invention relates to a method of making superconductive electric wire. The method involves the steps of: (a) preparing a tubular sheath made of silver or silver alloy, the cross sectional area of which is equal to or larger than 2/3 of the cross sectional area of a hollow space formed in the sheath; (b) preparing a green material comprising material elements of a superconductive material; (c) filling the hollow space of the sheath with the green material; (d) reducing the diameter of the sheath together with the green material contained therein; and (e) heat-treating the sheath and the green material in an oxygenous atmosphere, at a temperature 800° to 1100° C, for between 1 to 300 hours. The method is capable of producing a superconductive electric wire having a high critical temperature and a high critical electric current density.
