An improved method for manufacturing poly(hexamethylene adipamide), i.e. nylon 6,6, by resting monomethyl adipate with hexamethylenediamine in an approximately equimolar ratio in the presence of water at a temperature of 100 to 165 °C while simultaneous distilling off of a stoichiometric amount of methanol. The resulting aqueous intermediate product is then heated to 200 to 260 °C while distilling off substantially all water at a pressure of 1.50 to 250 psig (1.03 × 10 6 to 1.72 × 10 6 Pa) followed by reducing the pressure to atmospheric pressure and increasing the temperature to 270 to 280 °C to polycondense the distillate residue. Such a process is useful in producing high purity commercial grade poly(hexamethylene adipamide) that advantageously avoids problems caused by N-methylation of the polyamide.
L'invention concerne un procédé amélioré d'obtention de poly(hexaméthylène adipamide), par exemple du Nylon 6,6 consistant à faire réagir le monométhyl adipate avec l'hexaméthylènediamine dans une proportion approximativement équimolaire en présence d'eau à une température allant de 100 à 165 DEG C et à distiller simultanément une quantité stoechiométrique de méthanol. Le produit aqueux intermédiaire obtenu est ensuite chauffé à une température allant de 200 à 260 DEG C alors que l'on distille sensiblement toute l'eau à une pression comprise entre 150 et 250 psig (entre 1,03 X 10<6> et 1,72 x 10<6> Pa). Ensuite on réduit la pression pour atteindre une pression atmosphérique et on augmente la température entre 270 et 280 DEG C pour polycondenser le reste du distillat. Un tel procédé est utile dans la production de poly(hexaméthylène adipamide) de grande pureté de qualité commerciale qui permet d'éviter les problèmes causés par la N-méthylation du polyamide.
