ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for manufacturing a spiral-seam-welded steel pipe which comprises forming a cylindrical pipe-blank in a substantially horizontal direction by bringing into butt contact side edges of a moving steel strip while spirally and cylindrically winding the moving steel strip; effecting an inside welding and an outside welding of the pipe-blank thereof along a spiral seam line thereof while continuing to move the steel strip. The inside welding and outside welding are effected respectively with the use of a plurality of consumable electrodes in tandem having a diameter of from 3 to 8 mm by applying gas shielded arc welding as the first welding with the use of a leading electrode of consumable electrodes in tandem, and by applying submerged arc welding as the subsequent welding with the use of at least one trailing electrode of the electrodes in tandem. The first welding and the subsequent welding are effected with a welding current of from 600 to 2,000 amperes and a welding voltage of from 20 to 50 volts. The first welding is effected in a shielding gas consisting essentially of an inert gas and at least one of CO2 gas and O2 gas. The subsequent welding is effected at a position apart from the position of the first welding by a distance equal to the forward distance of the pipe-blank during one turn of the pipe-blank or equal to integer times the forward distance.
