N2, consiste, par un processus d'optimisation, à modifier itérativement une fonction d'association notée F entre les noeuds des deux graphes de façon à minimiser, par approches successives, une fonction C (F) appelée fonction de coût de mise en correspondance et définie de manière à constituer une mesure d'erreur de l'association effectuée par la fonction d'association courante. Application dans le domaine de l'analyse d'images et particulièrement au recalage d'images provenant de capteurs différents et à la reconnaissance de formes en trois dimensions. Figure 8
