A method and apparatus for measuring the orientation of fibers of a sheet of paper on a paper machine online from an image to be measured formed by light transmitted through the paper sheet on the opposite side to the incidence of light. Nonpolarized light is projected from a pulse laser light source (1) through a focusing lens (2) onto a sheet of paper (w) generally perpendicularly to the plane of the paper sheet and the image to be measured formed on the opposite side to the light incident side of the paper sheet (W) is picked up by a CCD camera (3). The imaging optical system (3b) of the CCD camera comprises a super depth field lens. The image picked up is subjected to image processing for ellipse approximation. The angle of fiber orientation is calculated from the direction of the major axis and the strength of fiber orientation is calculated from the difference between the lengths of the major and minor axes or the ratio between the lengths. The paper sheet (W) moving can be imaged in a stationary state if the paper sheet (W) is imaged by the CCD camera (3) at a predetermined cycle with a pulse having an appropriated length.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour mesurer l'orientation des fibres d'une feuille de papier dans une machine à papier en ligne, à partir d'une image devant être mesurée formée, par une lumière traversant ladite feuille de papier, sur le côté opposé à l'incidence de la lumière. Une lumière non polarisée est projetée à partir d'une source (1) de lumière laser pulsée, à travers une lentille de focalisation (2), sur une feuille de papier (W), généralement perpendiculairement au plan de la feuille de papier, et l'image devant être mesurée, formée sur le côté opposé à l'incidence de la lumière de la feuille de papier (W), est recueillie par une caméra à dispositif de couplage de charge (CCD) (3). Le système optique d'imagerie (3b) de la caméra CCD comprend une lentille de champ super-profond. L'image recueillie est soumise au traitement d'image pour une approximation elliptique. L'angle d'orientation des fibres est calculé à partir de la direction du grand axe, et la force d'orientation des fibres est calculée à partir de la différence entre les longueurs des grand et petit axes ou du rapport entre lesdites longueurs. La prise de vues de ladite feuille de papier (W) en mouvement peut être réalisée dans un état fixe si l'opération est effectuée par la caméra CCD (3) selon un cycle prédéterminé avec une impulsion possédant une longueur appropriée.
