ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method for measuring the transverse profile of the head of a rail of a railroad track according to which a luminous trace is projected onto the surface of the head of a rail, in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rail, this trace having a particular point. The trace obtained is observed from two directions forming an angle between them, located on either side of a longitudinal plane of the rail and forming an angle with the plane of projection of the trace. This observation creates two partial reproductions of this trace. Finally, the two partial representations are angularly displaced an angle corresponding to the angles under which the trace is observed and the images of the particular point of the trace are superimposed to obtain the representation of the transverse profile of the rail in its totality.
