ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided for modifying the surface or an inorganic substrate to render such surface hydrophobic. It comprises heat- ing the substrate in the presence of an alpha-alkoxy-omega-siloxanol, R'O(R2SiO)xH. The inorganic substrate so formed is novel in that it has its surface modified by being hydrophobic.
