A system is described which has a battery, a device which is powered by said battery in an episodic manner, and a charge storage capacitor, said system having a device(s) attached to said charge storage capacitor which is capable of: (g) reading the rate of charge storage or (h) measuring both time and charge stored or added to said charge storage capacitor so that a rate of charge storage may be calculated. The use of this system allows for easy estimation of the estimated replacement time for the battery, particularly for a lithium battery in a pacing device. A process for estimating a level of energy depletion in the system may comprise (d) finding a relatively quiescent period in powering of said device in said episodic manner, (e) determining a rate of charging in said storage capacitor during said quiescent period, and (f) correlating said rate of charging in said storage capacitor to a value of internal resistance in said battery through a comparison with known relationships for said battery and rate of charging to determine a value for the internal resistance of said battery.
L'invention concerne un système comportant une pile, un dispositif alimenté par ladite pile de manière épisodique, et un condensateur. Ledit système comporte un(des) dispositif(s) connecté(s) audit condensateur, qui est(sont) capable(s) de: (g) lire le taux de conservation de charge ou (h) mesurer le temps de charge et la charge conservée ou ajoutée audit condensateur pour permettre de calculer un taux de conservation de charge. L'utilisation de ce système permet d'évaluer aisément à quel moment la pile doit être remplacée, en particulier une pile au lithium dans un dispositif de stimulation cardiaque. Un procédé d'estimation du niveau d'épuisement d'énergie du système peut comporter les étapes consistant à: (d) trouver une période relativement calme d'alimentation dudit dispositif de ladite manière épisodique; (e) déterminer une vitesse de charge dudit condensateur au cours de ladite période calme; et (f) corréler ladite vitesse de charge dudit condensateur avec une valeur de résistance interne de ladite pile, par comparaison à des relations connues concernant ladite pile et ladite vitesse de charge, afin de déterminer une valeur de résistance interne de ladite pile.
