The present invention provides a highly accurate method for monitoring patient or subject compliance with a medication prescription by collecting a sample of the exhaled air. The method of the present invention is easy and little burdens the patient or subject. The method comprises the steps of: (i) prescribing a patient or subject ingestion of at least one biologically active agent and at least one carbon isotope-labeled lipid, (ii) obtaining a sample of the patient's or subject's exhaled air, (iii) measuring the ratio of the carbon isotope-labeled CO2 relative to 12CO2 in the sample; and (iv) confirming the ingestion of the prescribed biologically active agent based on the ratio of the carbon isotope-labeled CO2 relative to 12CO2.
La présente invention se rapporte à une méthode très précise de surveillance de la conformité d'un patient ou d'un sujet à une prescription médicale par collecte d'un échantillon de l'air exhalé. La méthode de la présente invention est facile à mettre en oeuvre et elle ne crée que peu de contrainte pour le patient ou le sujet. Cette méthode comprend les étapes consistant: (i) à prescrire à un patient ou à un sujet l'ingestion d'au moins un agent biologiquement actif et d'au moins un lipide marqué par un isotope du carbone, (ii) à recueillir un échantillon de l'air exhalé par le patient ou le sujet, (iii) à mesurer le rapport du CO2 marqué par l'isotope du carbone au 12CO2 présent dans l'échantillon; et (iv) à confirmer l'ingestion de l'agent biologiquement actif prescrit sur la base de ce rapport du CO2 marqué par l'isotope du carbone au 12CO2.
