ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is proposed an observation method by scanning of a celestial body (T) from a space vehicle (S) comprising an observation system by scanning with reference to a scanning axis. It is characterized in that one forms (16) successively two signals (A, B) corresponding to the scanning, in a given directional series, of a given band of ground (BT), one detects (17) in each of these signals a characteristic transition (A1, B1) representative of a given characteristic point of this band of ground, one reads (18) the relative position of these transitions in these signals, and one determines (19) from any divergence between these relative positions an angular velocity (.omega.) of the space vehicle, taking into account the time interval separating the instants where each of these transitions has appeared in the aforementioned signals...
