ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is a method of obtaining aluminium oxide from smelted metallic slag. The slag is subjected to slow cooling and also to disintegra- tion, optionally assisted by ultrasonic or other high frequency vibration, to pulverulent form, with formation of a crystalline modification of polymorphous 12 CaO?7Al2O3 present in the slag. The pulverulent slag is subjected to ox- traction with soda solution, and aluminium oxide is subsequently obtained from the solution. The residue from the extraction can be used in the formation of Portland cement by burning with sand, limestone and pyrites cinders.
