A method for obtaining ethanol from a feed solution utilizes an extractant comprising a mixture of at least one alkane and at least one aliphatic alcohol having the formula (FORMULA) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R7 each independently represent H or a straight chain alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R6 represents a straight chain alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or taken together R3 and R6 represent an alkylene group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and ma and n independently represent 0, 1, 2, or 3, with the proviso that if R4 represents H, then at least two of R1, R2, and R3, or at least one of R5 and R7, are straight chain alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé qui permet d'obtenir de l'éthanol à partir d'une solution source et qui utilise à cet effet un agent d'extraction comprenant un mélange d'au moins un alcane et d'au moins un alcool aliphatique représenté par la formule (FORMULE), dans laquelle R?1¿, R?2¿, R?3¿, R?4¿, R?5¿ et R?7¿ représentent chacun séparément H ou un groupe alkyle à chaîne droite ayant 1 à 4 atomes de carbone ; R?6¿ représente un groupe alkyle à chaîne droite ayant 1 à 4 atomes de carbone, ou R?3¿ et R?6¿ représentent ensemble un groupe alkylène ayant 1 à 4 atomes de carbone ; et m et n représentent séparément 0, 1, 2, ou 3, à la condition que, si R?4¿ r représente H, alors au moins deux des éléments R?1¿, R?2¿ et R?3¿, ou au moins l'un des éléments R?5¿ et R?7¿, représentent des groupes alkyle à chaîne droite ayant 1 à 4 atomes de carbone.
