PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: Mise au point d'un procédé simple et utilisable pour une production, à grande échelle, de carbures de métaux lourds ayant une surface spécifique élevée, c'est-à-dire toujours supérieure à 20 m2/g, ou mieux à 50 m2/g, mais en général très supérieure à 100 m2/g, ce carbure pouvant être sous forme de granulé ou de pièces de formes. Dans ce procédé on fait réagir un composé à l'état gazeux dudit métal lourd avec du carbone réactif ayant une surface spécifique au moins égale à 200 m2 g-1 à une température comprise entre 900°C et 1400°C. Ces carbure de métaux lourds peuvent servir de support de catalyseur, de catalyseur tel quel ou déposé sur un support pour le frittage et autres applications.
