The invention concerns the use of a polynucleotide modulating the synthesis of COMT methyltransferase of corn encoded by the nucleotide sequence SEQ ID No. 1, in a method for obtaining corn plants with improved properties of digestibility having a modified ratio between the S and G units of lignin and having a modified lignin content which remains compatible with the normal development of the plant. The invention is useful for improving digestibility of corn.
