A method for determining a fuel-dilution condition of a lubricant used in transportation and industrial equipment. The method uses apparatus that applies a high frequency and optionally a low frequency oscillating signal to electrodes immersed in the fluid and quantifies fluid response to the signals. Apparatus can further include means to control the lubricant temperature, or a temperature sensor to monitor the lubricant temperature at the electrodes. The method monitors response of the lubricant to the applied electrical signals and determines ratios of lubricant properties. The high-frequency lubricant property ratio or change of high frequency lubricant property as a function of a lubricant use-measure is compared to a predicted ratio based on lubricant use and an estimate of the lubricant's fuel dilution determined. The optional low-frequency lubricant property ratio is compared to thresholds to determine when the lubricant loses the ability to control fuel dilution. The method outputs information relevant to the fuel-dilution condition of the lubricant.
La présente invention concerne procédé permettant de déterminer l'état de dilution de combustible de lubrifiant utilisé dans un matériel de transport et dans un matériel industriel. Ce procédé utilise un appareil qui applique un signal d'oscillation de haute fréquence et éventuellement de basse fréquence à des électrodes immergées dans le fluide et qui quantifie la réponse du fluide à ces signaux. Cet appareil peut aussi comprendre un organe destiné à commander la température de lubrifiant ou un capteur de température destiné à surveiller la température du lubrifiant au niveau des électrodes. Ce procédé surveille la réponse du lubrifiant aux signaux électriques appliqués et détermine des rapports de propriété de lubrifiant. Le rapport de propriété de lubrifiants à haute fréquence ou les changements de propriété du lubrifiant à haute fréquence en fonction d'une mesure d'usure de lubrifiant est comparé à des seuils afin de déterminer quand le lubrifiant perd sa capacité de commander la dilution du combustible. Ce procédé produit en sortie des informations pertinentes sur l'état de dilution du combustible du lubrifiant.
