A method of repeatably non-reversibly encrypting data is disclosed. According to the method, one-way encryption, or hashing, is performed using a neural network. A first number is provided to a neural network as an input value for being encrypted. The output value provided by the neural network is an encrypted value. The neural network is modified at intervals in a predictable or easily synchronised fashion to ensure that multiple neural netwroks can each produce similar results with a same set of input values. Modifying the neural network at intervals reduces a risk that someone will decode the transform technique.
