It is an object of the present invention to prevent forced oxidation of dust in copper flash-smelting works, reduce the adhesion of dust to boiler the water tube, and improve the on-line ratio and productivity index. The temperature at the WHB radiation section outlet is greatly reduced and the atmosphere within the WHB radiation section is controlled by blowing a mixed gas of nitrogen gas and air from the feed aperture 6 established in the wall into the boiler radiation section 2 of the waste heat boiler of the flash-smelting furnace in a copper flash-smelting works. As a result, a reduced amount of dust is generated. Moreover, the dust removed from the off-gas has reduced adhesion, the exhaust gas having been generated within the flash-smelting furnace 1 and sent to the sulfuric acid works via the boiler radiation section 2, boiler furnace outlet 8, boiler convection section 3, cyclone 4, and electrostatic precipitator.
