Methods for optimizing lumber are provided. In an embodiment, boards cut from a log are examined for warp stability and/or knots. This occurs prior to and/or after the planing process. Based on the examination for warp stability and/or knots, the boards can be sent to a lumber upgrade process, such as for example, re-drying, edging, splitting, trimming, chopping, chipping, or the like. Accordingly, the method of the present invention enables more efficient allocation of lumber towards manufacturing needs.

L'invention concerne des méthodes d'optimisation du bois d'ouvre. Dans une réalisation de l'invention, des planches découpées d'une grume sont examinées pour en déterminer la stabilité au gauchissement et/ou la présence de nouds. Cette opération a lieu avant et/ou après le rabotage. Sur la base de l'examen de la stabilité au gauchissement et/ou la présence de nouds, les planches peuvent être acheminées vers un processus de valorisation du bois d'ouvre, par exemple le resséchage, le délignage, le fendage, l'éboutage, le tronçonnage, la fragmentation ou autres. Par conséquent, la méthode décrite dans la présente invention permet une allocation plus rentable du bois d'ouvre pour les besoins des manufacturiers.
