In ABR connections control cells are added to the flow of ATM cells. These control cells are sent back to the emitting device. To be able to ensure that control is efficient, the flow of ATM cells belonging to ABR connections is measured and subjected to a control procedure. The result of said control procedure is then possibly recorded in the information part of the retransmitted control cells.

Dans les connexions à débit binaire variable (ABR), des cellules de commande sont intégrées au courant de cellules ATM. Ces cellules de commande sont renvoyées au dispositif émetteur. Afin de pouvoir assurer une commande efficace, le courant des cellules ATM appartenant aux connexions à débit binaire variable est mesuré et est soumis à un processus de commande. Le résultat de cette opération est alors éventuellement introduit dans la partie des données des cellules de commande transmises en retour.
