Hydrocarbon compounds such as alkylated aromatics, alkanes, alkenes, and oxygenates such as alcohols are contacted with oxygen in the presence of oxidative dehydrogenation catalyst. The catalyst exhibits good selectivity to desired products and has suffi- cient activity to maintain low reaction temperatures. Further, cata- lysts doped with a redox-active transition metal moiety exhibit increased activity and selectivity.
