Indicia (23) is affixed to an enamel band (22) on a substrate (20), such as a windshield (21). An ink suitable for use in known ink jet printers containing inorganic pigments and no frits is applied in a predetermined, easily changeable pattern to the surface of an enamel band found on a substrate such as plastic or glass. Subsequently, the substrate having the enamel band and ink thereon may be heated to a temperature sufficient to cause the frits in the enamel band to adhere to the inorganic pigment in the ink to form permanent opaque indicia on the enamel band in the form of a separate and distinct layer (23a).
Cette invention permet d'inscrire des marques (23) dans une bande d'émail (22) recouvrant un substrat (20), tel qu'un pare-brise (21). A cet effet, une encre propre a être utilisée dans les imprimantes à jet d'encre connues, contenant des pigments inorganiques et ne contenant pas de fritte, est appliquée selon un motif prédéterminé, aisément modifiable, sur la surface une bande d'émail recouvrant un substrat, par exemple, en plastique ou en verre. Le substrat sur lequel sont placées la bande d'émail et l'encre peut ensuite être chauffé à une température suffisante pour amener la fritte contenue dans la bande d'émail à adhérer aux pigments inorganiques contenus dans l'encre, afin de former des marques opaques permanentes sur la bande d'émail sous la forme d'une couche séparée et distincte (23a) .
