The invention discloses a method for a pollution abating engine comprising an independent suction and compression chamber (1), an independent expansion chamber with a constant volume (2), and an independent expansion and exhaust chamber (4) in which the fuel supply systems are dispensed with, and operating in monomode with the injection of a small amount of additional compressed air at ambient temperature in the expansion chamber (2) which contains air drawn in and compressed at high temperature by the piston (9) of the compression chamber (1), cleaned and purified through a charcoal filter (24) or by another purifying method. The additional compressed air is heated in contact with the high temperature air mass in the expansion chamber, increases in volume and pressure and produces work when expanded as hot air and is ejected still cleaned and purified into the atmosphere via the exhaust (19). The additional compressed air is stored at room temperature in a reservoir under very high pressure (23). The invention also concerns the installation of such an engine on city buses and other service vehicles in towns.
