ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is disclosed for selectively precipitating one or more of the metals nickel, cobalt and copper as sulphide with aid of elemental sulphur from aqueous solutions containing other metals, such as zinc. The reaction temperature is maintained above the melting point of sulphur and the precipitation is carried out with a pH value below 2. The metals to be precipitated can be present in the solution either as oxides, hydroxides or sulphates. If the metals are present as sulphates, the sulphide of at least one of the metals is provided as seed crystals in the solution prior to precipitation.
