The properties of a water-lain sedimentary deposit may be predicted at any location from a contour of constant deposit thickness. One embodiment of the method comprises (a) determining an outline of constant deposit thickness in a measured deposit, (b) determining the fluid flow properties at the inlet of the measured deposit, (c) determining a property of the deposit at any point inside the deposit from modeling the fluid flow. The properties of the deposit at any point may include the thickness of the sediment body, the size of the body, the shape of the body, and the grain size distribution at each point within the body, and any combination thereof.
Selon la présente invention, les propriétés d'un dépôt sédimentaire aquatique peuvent être prévues à n'importe quel endroit à partir d'une isoligne d'épaisseur de dépôt constante. Dans un mode de réalisation de cette invention, ce procédé consiste (a) à déterminer un contour d'épaisseur de dépôt constante dans un dépôt mesuré ; (b) à déterminer les propriétés d'écoulement fluidique au niveau de l'orifice d'admission du dépôt mesuré ; et (c) à déterminer une propriété du dépôt à un endroit quelconque à l'intérieur du dépôt à partir de la modélisation de l'écoulement fluidique. Les propriétés du dépôt à un endroit quelconque peuvent comprendre l'épaisseur du corps sédimentaire, la taille du corps, la forme du corps et la répartition granulométrique au niveau de chaque point à l'intérieur du corps, ainsi que toute combinaison de ces propriétés.
