The present invention relates to concrete, mortar and other hardenable mixtures comprising cement and fly ash for use in construction. The invention includes a method for predicting the compressive strength of such a hardenable mixture, which is very important for planning a project. The invention also relates to hardenable mixtures comprising cement and fly ash which can achieve greater compressive strength than hardenable mixtures containing only concrete over the time period relevant for construction. In a specific embodiment, a formula is provided that accurately predicts compressive strength of concrete containing fly ash out to 180 days. In other specific examples, concrete and mortar containing about 15 % to 25 % fly ash as a replacement for cement, which are capable of meeting design specifications required for building and highway construction, are provided. Such materials can thus significantly reduce construction costs.

L'invention concerne le béton, le mortier et autres mélanges durcissables comprenant du ciment et des cendres volantes, et s'utilisant dans la construction. L'invention concerne un procédé de prévision de la résistance à la compression d'un tel mélange durcissable, ce qui est très important pour la planification d'un projet. L'invention concerne aussi des mélanges durcissables comprenant du ciment et des cendres volantes et pouvant avoir une résistance à la compression plus élevée que celle de mélanges durcissables ne contenant que du béton sur la durée pertinante à la construction. Dans un mode spécifique de réalisation, on a établi une formule permettant la prévision précise de la résistance à la compression du béton contenant des cendres volantes sur 180 jours. Dans d'autres examples spécifiques, du béton et du mortier contenant environ 15 % à 25 % de cendres volantes en substitution du ciment et pouvant satisfaire les spécifications techniques pour la construction de bâtiments et de routes sont également décrits. Ces matériaux peuvent réduire considérablement les coûts de construction.
