ABSTRACT A method of expanding perlite is disclosed wherein expansible particles of perlite are introduced into an expansion apparatus employing a burner using combustible gas in the order of l volume of gas to 2 to 6 volumes of air with oxygen being introduced at the rate of 1.5 to 16% by weight relative to the air.
