The invention relates to a method for preparation of ruthenium-based carbene catalysts with a chelating alkylidene ligand ("Hoveyda-type catalysts") by reacting a penta-coordinated ruthenium (I?)-alkylidene complex of the type (L)(Py)X1X2Ru(alkylidene) with a suitable olefin derivative in a cross metathesis reaction. The method delivers high yields and is conducted preferably in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. The use of phosphine-containing Ru carbene complexes as starting materials can be avoided. Catalyst products with high purity, particularly with low Cu content, can be obtained.

La présente invention concerne un procédé d'élaboration de catalyseurs carbéniques à base de ruthénium comportant un ligand de chélation à base d'alkylidène (catalyseurs de type Hoveyda). En l'occurrence, on prend un complexe penta-coordonné de ruthénium (II)-alkylidène et on le fait réagir avec un dérivé oléfinique approprié au cours d'une réaction croisée de métathèse. Ce procédé à rendement élevé s'effectue de préférence dans des solvants à base d'hydrocarbures aromatiques. L'invention permet d'éviter le recours, comme matériau de départ, à des complexes carbéniques de ruthénium contenant une phosphine. Les catalyseurs obtenus par l'invention se distinguent par une haute pureté, et en particulier une faible teneur en cuivre.
