The invention concerns a method for preparing 4-methyl-biphenyl derivatives of general formula (I) in which R represents a protected cyano or tetrazolyl group of formula (a) in which R¿1? located at position 1 or 2 of the tetrazolyl group represents one protecting group, characterised in that one halobenzene of formula (II) in which Hal represents one halogen atom and R represents the same as before, is reacted with a p-tolymagnesium halide in the presence of a polyether, linear or branched, and a catalyst containing a transition metal.

L'invention a pour objet un procédé pour la préparation de dérivés de 4-méthyl- biphényle de formule générale (I) dans laquelle R représente un groupement cyano ou tétrazolyle protégé de formule (a), dans laquelle R1 situé en position 1 ou 2 du groupement tétrazolyle représente un groupement protecteur, caractérisé en ce que l'on fait réagir un halobenzène de formule (II) dans laquelle Hal représente un atome d'halogène et R a la même signification que précédemment, avec un halogénure de p-tolymagnésium en présence d'un polyéther, linéaire ou ramifié, et d'un catalyseur contenant un métal de transition.
