PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention concerne un procédé pour augmenter la densité d'une résine échangeuse d'ions à base de copolymère de styrène et de divinylbenzène. Le procédé selon l'invention est caractérisé en ce que la résine est traitée simultanément par du brome et du chlore. Ce procédé de densification par action simultanée du brome et du chlore permet à partir de résines anioniques de densité comprise entre 1,150 et 1,175 (densité de la résine sèche sous sa forme ionique chlorure) d'aboutir à des résines qui, sous la même forme ionique, présentent des densités pouvant dépasser 1,30 et même parfois 1,35.
